Kokua Sun Care's Non-Profit Partner this Giving Tuesday: The Coral Reef Alliance

This Giving Tuesday, Kokua Sun Care is thrilled to announce our partnership with the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL), an organization that has been dedicated to protecting Hawaiʻi’s coral reefs for over 15 years. To celebrate this collaboration and support their vital conservation work, we’re donating 100% of our website profits from today, December 3, through the end of Wednesday, December 4, to CORAL. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on preserving Hawaiʻi’s marine ecosystems for generations to come.

Protecting Hawaiʻi’s Underwater Treasures

The Coral Reef Alliance is at the forefront of coral reef conservation in Hawaiʻi, a region home to 85% of the United States’ coral reefs and one of the highest concentrations of endemic marine species in the world. These reefs are more than just natural beauty—they are integral to Hawaiian culture, traditions, and livelihoods, contributing over $800 million annually to the local economy through tourism and providing essential shoreline protection valued at $836 million annually.

However, Hawaiʻi’s reefs are facing unprecedented threats. Climate change, overfishing, and pollution—especially land-based pollution like sewage and stormwater runoff—are causing significant damage. Across the islands, 88,000 cesspools release an estimated 53 million gallons of raw sewage daily into Hawaiʻi’s waterways, directly contributing to coral bleaching, disease, and even human health issues. In West Maui, where sediment runoff from abandoned agricultural lands pours into the ocean, once-thriving reefs are now struggling to survive. These critical ecosystems, which form the foundation of marine life and coastal protection, urgently need our help.

A Collaborative Approach to Coral Reef Conservation

Since 2006, CORAL has worked tirelessly to design and implement solutions that protect Hawaiʻi’s coral reefs for the future. Their efforts focus on preventing land-based pollution from entering the ocean in priority areas like Maui and Hawaiʻi Island. CORAL is also one of only two non-profits represented on the statewide Cesspool Conversion Working Group, which is paving the way for more efficient and eco-friendly wastewater treatment systems.

Their work extends beyond pollution prevention—they see the bigger picture of reef conservation. By tackling both local and global threats, CORAL is helping reefs adapt to the challenges of climate change while also ensuring that these ecosystems continue to thrive as a vital part of Hawaiʻi’s cultural and ecological identity.

Why We’re Proud to Partner with CORAL

At Kokua Sun Care, we’ve always been committed to protecting Hawaiʻi’s environment through our reef-safe products, but we know that true change requires more than just sunscreen. That’s why we’re so excited to partner with CORAL, an organization that shares our mission of safeguarding Hawaiʻi’s natural beauty and ecosystems. Their innovative programs, passion for conservation, and dedication to the islands’ future inspire us, and we’re honored to play a part in supporting their critical work.

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to join us in making a difference. Every purchase you make on our website through December 4 will directly support CORAL’s efforts to keep Hawaiʻi’s waters clean, its reefs healthy, and its marine life flourishing. Together, we can help ensure that Hawaiʻi’s coral reefs remain a vibrant, thriving treasure for generations to come.

Mahalo for your support of this important cause—and for being part of our Kokua ʻohana! 🌺🐠
